Often, when we discuss the history of Chinese books, we often quote the phrase “but the ancestors, the books and the books, and the summer of Yin.” It shows us the long history of the early books. However, there is an extremely simple and meaningful question that has not been widely studied by scholars, that is, how the contents of the catalogs were created, under what occasions they were used, and so on. All of these questions are related to the formation of early books and become the primary issue in the study of the history of books. This paper answers the above questions by studying “Yaodian” and reveals many features of the early classical texts.
