那达慕,是蒙古语,它的意思是娱乐与游戏。早在七百年前,就有这种独具民族特色的活动了。据史料记载,远在公元十三世纪初,蒙古族游牧部落,就有了那达慕,那时是庆贺丰收,象征吉祥的群众性活动。到了元朝,那达慕已发展成为完整的固定形式,有摔跤、赛马、射箭,深受草原人民的喜爱。元朝甚至规定,男子必须具备摔跤、赛马、射箭的技能。蒙古民族在漫长的历史活动中,所创造和形成的那达慕,富有浓郁的民族特点,已成为草原人民一年一度最隆重的欢庆活动。每年七八月间,都要举行一次那达慕。 Nadam, Mongolian, it means entertainment and games.
