Objective To investigate the infection rate and risk factors of wound infection after the operation of appendicitis in diabetic patients. Methods From January 2004 to January 2011, 450 diabetic patients undergoing surgical resection of appendectomy were divided into two groups. Among them, 52 cases were infected with wounds and their risk factors were analyzed. Results The influencing factors of postoperative appendectomy in diabetic patients were age, body mass index, history of diabetes, smoking history, appendicitis types, blood glucose level before and during operation (P <0.01 or <0.05). Conclusion Strict control of preoperative and postoperative blood glucose levels, can reduce the probability of incision infection.
