威廉·福克纳是美国文学史上最具影响力的作家之一。其短篇小说《烧马棚》讲述了一个十岁的小男孩沙多里斯面对父亲惯用烧马棚的方式解决一切冲突与矛盾时所做出的选择,带给了读者深刻的伦理思考。本文试图从文学伦理学批评视角出发,从伦理身份的确认、伦理意识的觉醒以及进退维谷的伦理选择等三个方面分析小说主人公沙多里斯在成长过程中所遇到的伦理问题及其蕴含的文学价值,让读者充分体验到小说人物在面临伦理困境时的迷惘、伦理身份认同的艰难、伦理选择的不易,并从中获得丰富的伦理教益与启迪。
William Faulkner is one of the most influential writers in the history of American literature. His short story, “The Burning Horseshoe,” tells the reader a profound ethical thinking about the choice made by a 10-year-old boy, Sandolis, in the face of his father’s use of a burning stall as a means of resolving all conflicts and conflicts.
