美国当代作家E.L.多克托罗的代表作《大进军》自出版以来就颇受好评,小说运用全新的叙述方法描述美国内战,突出表现的是边缘人群的命运,如黑白混血私生女珀尔、失去依靠的南方丽人艾米莉、战争机器似的军医雷德等,多克托罗倾注了大量笔墨描绘他们追寻自由路上的坎坷。本文从萨特的存在主义的角度出发,展现多克托罗所表现出来的人类追求自由的可贵精神和命运的不可掌控性。
American contemporary writer EL Ductuo Luo’s masterpiece “Great Progress” has been well received since its publication, the novel uses a new narrative method to describe the civil war in the United States, highlighting the fate of marginalized people, such as black and white mixed-race female Pearl, Emily, the South Beauty who has lost her dependence, the Reid, a war machine-like military doctor, and so forth, Doktoro devoted a great deal of ink and brush depicting the ups and downs of pursuing freedom. This paper, from the point of view of Sartre’s existentialism, shows the uncontrollable nature of the valuable spirit and destiny of humankind’s pursuit of freedom manifested by Doktoro.
