In the process of communication, communicators often exchange meaning; meaning is expressed through verbal and non-verbal information, which can be “plain speaking” and “dark talk.” “Dark talk” here refers to the implicit meaning in the message. Implicit meaning can be divided into conscious implied meaning and unconscious implied meaning from the point of transmitting information. The meaning of the unconscious means that the speaker himself does not know what to say, but the words he expresses have a deep meaning attached to the surface information due to cultural factors. This meaning is implicit to a hearer of another cultural background that he can not establish the same relationship with his cultural code and can not understand or even misunderstand the true meaning of each other. In intercultural communication, unconscious implication is the main factor leading to not understanding and misunderstanding. Sometimes the two sides do not necessarily realize this kind of misunderstanding and correct them in time, which will eventually affect communication, interpersonal relations and cooperation between the two sides.
