The 2.6 million-square-foot San Diego Convention Center is located on the sparkling San Diego Bay in the heart of a vibrant downtown and has consistently been recognized as one of the top convention centers in the world. The convention center was just named a 2017 Venue of Excellence by the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM). Abundant, flexible space and five-star service make the San Diego Convention Center the meeting planners’ choice for hosting major conventions, trade shows, meetings and special events.
The building is in a vibrant downtown setting within a mile and a half of more than 13,000 first-class hotel rooms, including four headquarter hotels, and 10 minutes from the airport. Events attendees will be within easy walking distance of an array of restaurants, retail stores and world-class entertainment.
Nearby is the historic Gaslamp Quarter, Seaport Village, Horton Plaza, the USS Midway Museum and Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres. And when something is not close by, getting around town is easy with the San Diego Trolley, the city’s light-rail public transit system that conveniently connects downtown to other parts of the city. And, of course, San Diego’s great weather and upbeat, positive vibe can’t be beat.

San Diego was recently ranked the 5th top meetings and convention destination in the US by Cvent. The region’s growing innovation economy, biotech and technology sector, international connections with Mexico, and world-famous craft beer culture, proves the destination is thriving with opportunity for research and business ventures. The health care and medical meetings market is highly competitive and the booming sectors of biotechnology and research help make San Diego that much more attractive.
The San Diego Convention Center is also a proud industry leader in sustainability. Each program in place as part of daily operations continues to improve, helping reach new record diversion rates. The facility set an all-time recycling record in 2016 by diverting 79% (3,162 tons) of total waste from local landfills. That is equal to about the weight of eight Boeing 747’s.
