In 1923, Henry Luce, born in China, and Britten Harden, who raised $ 68,000, founded Newsweek, “The Times.” The purpose of this magazine is to enable “busy people” to fully understand world events. It organizes and classifies weekly news and reports in the areas of news, international news, science, religion, business and education in the United States, making it suitable for non-professionals to read. At present, its circulation has reached 30 million copies, making it one of the most influential Newsweeks in the United States. Behind such a huge scale of distribution is a larger audience, whose views represent and influence the perception of news events by people, especially in Western countries. Since its publication more than 80 years ago, the theme of people and events on the cover of “Time” and in China has been around 60 times. This is a small proportion of thousands of journals, but outside the United States, Britain and several other European and American countries, this is not a small sum. The path of history never changes because of the attention of others, but the eyes of others can often give us another measure of history. In the “80’s” of the “era,” Americans never stopped overlooking the Chinese side across the ocean. Looking back on the cover of the “Time” magazine, one of the Chinese faces depicted under a different cultural background may allow us to conduct a different kind of return visit to ourselves.
