由于金属钛在高温时具有极活泼的化学性能,燃烧时可放出大量的热量,特别是钛和碳化合生成碳化钛时所产生的热量相当于TNT炸药的六倍.美国陆军机动指挥部曾利用这一研究成果来制备高能炸药.为了增加破甲弹的能量,早在70年代国外曾在破甲弹的炸药上涂上一层1mm左右厚的钛,在爆炸时与所生的气体如CO、CO_2、NO_2等发生猛烈的作用.近期我国利用钛及金属锆等制成金属燃烧环,装在杀爆榴等弹体上,在爆炸时产生数万颗火种,扩大杀伤面积,有效提高战斗力.
