Don't Use Hurtful Words
俗话说,好言一句三冬暖,恶语伤人六月寒。的确,或许你一句不经意的话便可以让听话的人伤心不已,甚至结束来之不易的友谊。

A young woman one day said something that hurt her best friend and the friend never met her after that. She regretted(懊悔) it, and wanted to take the words back.
She asked an older woman for advice. The woman said, "You need to do two things. Tonight, take your best feather pillows(羽毛枕头) and before the sun rises, you must put a single feather on the doorstep of each house in town. After you finish, come back to me and I’ll tell you the second one."
At night, the younger woman went from doorstep to doorstep and didn’t miss a single doorstep. After she finished, she went back and said, "I’ve put a feather on the doorstep of each home."
Now, the older woman said, "Go back and find the feathers and put them back into your pillows. Then everything will be as it was before."
The younger woman cried, "You know that’s impossible! The wind blew away each feather as soon as I put them on the doorsteps!"
"That’s true," said the older woman. "Each of your words is like a feather in the wind. You can never return them to your mouth, so remember: choose your words well, and use warm words when you say something."

Keeping pets is a great hobby that Americans enjoy. In the USA, there are more pets than people. The most popular pets are dogs and cats. More common ones include birds, hamsters, mice and fish. Many people treat their pets as part of their family. They think they are as important as their children or close friends.
Americans take good care of their pets. Many people like to feed their pets with pet food. They regularly take their pets to go to the vests for physical examinations. They dress their pets in fashionable clothes and take their pets with them on vacation.
Why do Americans enjoy having pets? There are many reasons, but most people put companionship(情谊) first. They think pets can bring them fun and love, and help them live happier and healthier lives. Another reason is that keeping pets is good for children. Americans agree that keeping pets can teach their children responsibility(责任感) and help them learn to care for others. And of course, pets are also a good topic of conversations. They help their owners make more friends.
As you see, life without a pet is not good enough to Americans.

Have you ever been to America? It is well worth visiting. When you arrive in America, some friends are sure to tell you, "Although New York is neither the most beautiful city of America nor the capital city of the United States. First, of course, you must see New York." Many people call it the greatest city on the earth. About a hundred years ago the famous English writer Charles Dickens said after visiting America, "New York gets newer every day." How right he was. Every day old buildings are knocked down to make space for new ones.
First get a map of New York City. Of course, you can take a bus trip, but a better way is to look up the tall buildings on either side of the street of New York from squares called "blocks" (街区). All the streets are in straight lines, running from East to West. Those running from North to South are called avenues(大街).
Guides will take you to the top of the building all around the center. They will show and describe the famous places of "the greatest city on the earth". When you are on the 102ndfloor, over 500 hundred meters, you can see an area which one tenth of all the people in America live in.
Go up again at night and see the millions of lighted windows. It is a scenery you'll never forget. You will be very, very, excited unless your heart is hard as stone(石头).
