据记载,茶膏雏形始现于唐,成型于宋,普洱茶膏的正式定名则在清代。清朝皇宫将普洱茶膏的制作搬到宫廷御茶房完成,普洱茶膏是供给皇帝的茶中珍品,选料非常精细,要求极严,必然造成出品量极低,自始至终,都没有在社会上流通。在乾隆五十七年,普洱茶膏作为国家礼品第一次馈赠给英国使臣。如今,普洱茶膏已列入深加工产品的行列,但宫廷里制作茶膏的工艺却随着清朝的覆灭而失传了。现在市面上随处可见普洱茶粉、即溶普洱茶、普洱茶食品等。普洱茶膏以丰富的茶多酚、茶色素、生物碱、儿茶素、茶多糖等
