Putnam’s scientific realism is mainly composed of the causal theory of reference, the correspondence theory of truth and scientific essentialism. All of which relates to each other and make up an organic whole.Among which the scientific essentialism and the causal effect on reference from environment are of special importance.Yet the theory still has its own difficulties.Since late 1970 s,with reorientation of the nature of philosophy and reflection on Goodman,Quine and Dummett’s perspectives,Putnam gave up his previous position of scientific realism and replaced the position of scientific essentialism based on“God’s eye” with“human position”.He also denied the correspondence theory of truth with“model theoretic argument” and“conceptual relativity”,and cut off the causal effect on reference from environment with“meaning holism”.What he has done leads to a destruction of the scientific realism and paves the way for the establishmentof the internal realism.
