This paper studies the dilatancy properties of several types of sand pebbles and gravel with lateral pressure, particle gradation, axial strain, breakage, etc., and their effects on strength (mainly φ value) and destroyed Poisson’s ratio. Studies have shown that the dilatancy rate of sand pebbles is not zero but negative during shear failure, while the dilatancy of the pebbles during shearing is mainly represented by shear. In addition, the data in this paper also show that the dilatancy of the fine-grained sand pebbles is stronger than that of the coarse-grained sand pebbles, and the dilatancy (shrinkage) of the fine-grained gravel is weaker than the coarse-grained gravel.
