On the morning of March 16, CPAFFC Vice President Jing Dunquan specially went to the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) to donate 100,000 RMB yuan to the Japanese earthquake-hit areas on behalf of the CPAFFC and the China-Japan Friendship Association (CJFA). Wang Rupeng, Secretary General of the RCSC, and Shigeo Yamada, Minister of the Japanese Embassy in China, were present.
Jing Dunquan expressed sincere sympathy and solicitude to the Japanese people and deep condo- lences to the victims. For a long time the people of the two countries had supported each other for common development and forged profound friendship, he said. The Chinese people felt very sad at the heavy casualties and property losses caused by the catastrophe. Various social sectors in China would try their best to help the Japanese people to tide over the difficulties. The CPAFFC and the CJFA wanted to do their bit to help with earthquake relief efforts and post- disaster reconstruction.
Shigeo Yamada expressed his thanks to the CPAFFC and the CJFA for their precious aid, saying that the Japanese Government and people supported by the inter- national community, would surely overcome difficulties and rebuild. The fact that the Chinese people lent a helping hand would surely narrow the distance in feelings between the two peoples and further enhance mutual understanding and friendship.
Wang Rupeng, on behalf of the RCSC, accepted the donation and expressed his appreciation to the CPAFFC and the CJFA for their kindness. He said, the RCSC would, together with various social sectors of China, provide assistance to Japan for reconstruction.
