2004年9月的北京，首届中国网球公开赛正在热闹地进行着，在国家体育总局东侧的康城宾馆内，一个为期3天的会议正在那里悄然举行。会上，网球运动管理中心主任孙晋芳宣布本届国家队的使命在雅典奥运会后已经完成，国家队暂时解散，新一届国家队的组队名单将在两个月后公布。 两个月后，网球运动管理中心传出了国家队教练班子调整的消息，在公布的教练员名单中，少了一个我们十分熟悉的名字，56岁的上海籍教练王良佐。王良佐在圈内有良好的口碑，他待人和善，谈吐颇有见地，加之外语又不错，圈内人尊之为“儒帅”。记者与王教练也打过两年多交道，深被其人格魅力所折服。两年前，记者认识的是一个头发花白的王良佐；两年后，记者熟识的是一位头发近乎全白的王良佐。两年间，记者一直在寻找机会采写王良佐，但一直没有合适的时间。如今，卸任在家的王良佐终于有了更多自己安排的时间，记者也得以有机会和他促膝长谈，现在我所面对的是一个更坦诚、更有见解的长者。
