Objective To investigate the changes of lipid components of erythrocyte membrane in patients with cerebral infarction and its relationship with blood viscosity. Methods The erythrocyte membrane lipid components and whole blood viscosity of 58 patients with cerebral infarction and 26 healthy people were measured. Results The level of erythrocyte membrane cholesterol (CHO) increased, the content of phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) decreased, and the whole blood viscosity increased. Linear correlation analysis showed that PC was negatively correlated with the viscosity of whole blood high shear, and that SM was positively correlated with low shear viscosity of whole blood. Conclusion The erythrocyte membrane in patients with cerebral infarction has not only the abnormal metabolism of cholesterol, but also the metabolic disorder of phospholipid components, which have an impact on the blood viscosity.
