童明更为正式的身份是一名大学老师,执教于同济大学,长期从事广泛的建筑与城市理论研究工作,出版了若干专著和译著。他将学习和研究形成的知识与思考融入到建筑实践中去,因而他的建筑作品具有语言学意义上的丰富内涵,是词与物的交汇,是理论概念在空间实体上的投射。建筑表述了词语的意义,从而在这种意义上获得了建筑的自主性。同时,他亦致力于探讨如何在一个不断变化的环境中,通过建筑思考来联络众多相互隔离的事物,如现实与历史、想象与现实、事件与环境等。它能够激活在现实中的潜在因素,通过转型与整合来形成新的观点和建筑表达。另外,他的建筑作品深受中国园林的影响,干净而洗练,内敛而细致,随处可见传统园林的空间语汇,通过空间的创造、材料的挖掘与细部的设计与现代建筑很好地融为一体。
Tong Ming, a more formal identity is a university teacher, coached at Tongji University, has long been engaged in a wide range of architectural and urban theoretical research, published a number of monographs and translations. He incorporates the knowledge and thinking formed by study and research into architectural practice. Therefore, his architectural works have rich connotations in linguistic sense, are the intersection of words and objects, and are the projection of theoretical concepts on the spatial entities. The building expresses the meaning of the word, thus obtaining architectural autonomy in this sense. At the same time, he is devoted to discussing how to connect many isolated things, such as reality and history, imagination and reality, events and the environment through architectural thinking in an ever-changing environment. It activates potential factors in reality by transforming and integrating to create new perspectives and architectural expressions. In addition, his architectural works are deeply influenced by Chinese gardens, clean and practiced, restrained and meticulous, and can be seen everywhere in the space of traditional gardens. They are well integrated with modern architecture through the creation of space, the excavation of materials and the detailed design .
