The main olfactory bulb (MOB) is the first relay station in the central nervous system for processing sensory information that comes from olfactory receptor neurons.Many neurons in the olfactory bulb communicated via dendrodendritic synapses, which played important roles in transforming the odor information, sharpening odorant signals and increasing odorant discrimination.Neuroanatomical studies in the MOB demonstrate that metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) are densely expressed in granule cells and periglomerular cells (PGCs) which may modulate inhibitory dendrodendritic synapses onto the principle projection neuron mitral cells (MCs).
