Objective: Oral and pharyngeal cancer (OPC) of multifactorial etiology is a major health problem in Sri Lanka.High-risk (HR)types of human papillomavirus (HPV) are significant riskfactors for OPC in many countries.Few data are available on the association between HPV and pharyngeal cancer in Sri Lanka.Thus, the relationship of HR-HPV16 and HR-HPV18 types with OPC in Sri Lanka was investigated.
