We previously showed that a subset of plant defense genes in Arabidopsis are specifically regulated by DNA demethylases.To further understand the mechanism of DNA demethylase-mediated defense gene regulation, we performed genomewide small RNA and bisulfite sequencing analysis of wild-type and DNA demethylase mutant Arabidopsis plants infected or uninfected with the fungal pathogen Fusarium oxysporum.I will present results suggesting a direct interaction between DNA demethylases and heterochromatin-associated small RNAs in the regulation of defense genes.
