The rapid developments in mouse neuro-genetics, particularly with regards to the generation of genetic mouse models of human brain disorders, have opened up important new opportunities for the investigation of normal and diseased brain function. However, replication of genetic conditions causing neuropsychiatric or motor disorders in humans do not always result in the same or even similar set of phenotypical abnormalities in mice.Comparison of human and mouse conditions is particularly difficult for disorders affecting cognitive brain functions. While the mouse brain may show the same physiological and anatomical abnormalities found in patients it is often difficult find corresponding behavioral deficits.
