Cancer immunotherapy, particularly antigen-specific cancer vaccines, has emerged as an attractive approach due to their ability to kill tumor cells without harming normal cells. The understanding ofoncogenic human papillomavirus (HPV) as a necessary cause in cervical carcinogenesis has created an opportunity to control cervical cancer through vaccination against HPV.Since HPV early proteins E6 and E7 are constantly expressed in a majority of cervical cancers and are responsible for their malignant transformation, they represent ideal targets for therapeutic HPV vaccination.
