β2-glycoprotein I(β2-GPI) is a major antigen for anticardiolipin antibodies(aCL,Abs) present in patients with antiphospholipid syndrome. The domain V of β2-GPI has a potent phospholipids binding region.A structure consisting of a particular region,K282NKEKK287,was identified to be involved in binding to phospholipids, using synthesized peptides and mutant proteins of β2-GPI.β2-GPI affects multiple phospholipids-dependent coagulation pathways but also lipoprotein metabolism.
