Objective: To describe the short term donor site morbidity of free fibula and free DCIA in maxillofacial reconstruction and to compare the donor site morbidity between the two flaps.Methods: Twenty five patients underwent maxillofacial reconstruction using free fibula and free DCIA flaps between March 2010 to January 2011, in Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Hong Kong University, and School of Stomatology, Peking University.In 19 patients, a fibula was used while in 6 patients iliac crest was chosen.Patients were being evaluated subjectively via interview and questionnaires and examined by 2 primary investigators who did not participate in the surgery, daily during hospital stay, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months post operatively to evaluate the short term donor site morbidity of free fibula and free DCIA flaps.
