Resistance of bacteria to antibiotics has become one of the main problems in human health. The discovery of new antibiotic families is a way to circumvent such problems and antimicrobial peptides may represent a new type of a such antibiotics.A recent review lists the antimicrobial peptides isolated from animals and from insects, and show the rapid increase in the number of molecules that have been characterized. The wide front of gene-engineering researches, is directed on carry of the genes encoding antimicrobial peptides in bacterial strains.
