Multipoint injection systems are used for systems where one of the reactants is either in excess or where there is a possibility of sequential exothermic reactions and the interest is in producing one of the intermediates at an early stage with negligible side products from subsequent reactions.Such systems are robust in terms of performance however poses several challenges because of the staggered dosing which eventually changes the flow pattern in the reactor from its inlet to outlet. This has implications on heat transfer, mixing, mass transfer and also the extent of dispersion. This particular work focuses on the analysis of extent of dispersion for a multipoint injection systems. The work involves experiments as well as simulations to develop a model that helps to design microreactors for exothermic oxidation, nitration and chlorination reactions. The parameters studied in this work include, the number of inlets, their position, and flow rates in each inlet. Finally a correlation is being developed to predict the yield and selectivity at the reactor outlet with the studied parameters and dimensionless numbers. The data is used for successfully implementing a multipoint injection system for exothermic sequential reactions.
