Imagery is one of the main components of the cognitive trait of hypnotisability, which is measured by scales. Our studies show that actual and imagined sensory alteration can induce the same modulation of postural control in subjects with high hypnotizability.Indeed, imagery of conditions associated with inertial complex body reactions not explicitly described to participants (and thus not expected) induces a congruent behaviour reported as involuntary only by highly hypnotizable subjects (Highs).
