In life science more and more high-throughput approaches are developed, matured and applied to generate substantial data sets. Two prominent examples include nextgcneration sequencing and mass spectrometry. As a consequence, advanced bioinformatics tools have to be implemented to support the data analysis. We present a multi-scale analysis for understanding regulatory patterns in oncology:from miRNAs over genes to proteins.Beyond highlighting regulatory networks that are affected in cancer we also provide evidence that the analysis of single cells, especially in the case of liquid tumor biopsies, have the potential to further our understanding of molecular physiological and pathophysiological processes.
