In promoting the green industries and preserving the natural environment of Beijing's mountainous suburbs, rural tourism is now becoming one of the primary interfaces/interactions between rural and urban economies which have directed more and more public investments, business investors, leisure seekers and cheap labour to rural Beijing. This paper tries to provide the theoretical insights into these rural-tourism-driven socio-spatial transformations of the rural Beijing, where historically the GDP growth had lagged far behind that of urban districts but has seen a leap in the past decade.Once being 'somewhat' commodified by the local peasant entrepreneurs, the reproduction of rural spaces for further tourism development has been widely used as a vehicle for branding and marketing the tourism places.
