Physical activity guidelines for children state that children should engage in at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day. However a number of recent studies indicate that higher amounts of physical activity may be required for optimal body composition and prevention of cardiovascular risk factors. The volume of physical activity may need an increase in time and in intensity.Achieving higher amounts of activity may be difficult.Possible means of increasing activity levels in children will be discussed. The relationship between physical activity and individual cardiovascular risk factors has been investigated in a number of studies.
