Since steel provides high tensile strength and concrete possesses the adequate compressive strength, composite steel-concrete bridges are usually characterized by high strength, full usage of materials, high stiffness, and sufficient ductility. However, evaluating the structural behavior of the composite steel-concrete bridges becomes more complicated due to the different material properties of the steel and concrete.Especially,time-dependent behavior of concrete, such as creep and shrinkage, makes it difficult to evaluate the structural response of this type of bridges.Currently, the transformed-section method (Gilbert & Bradford 1995),in which the materials of composite members are transformed into steel and concrete,is mainly used in the analysis of composite steel-concrete bridges.
