  Introduction:Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a metabolic disorder that results from the visceral fat.The 5 parameters of MS includes abdominal obesity,high blood glucose,pressure,triacylglycerol (TG) and low HDL-C.The purpose of this study was to establish a hamster model that can evaluate the effect of a functional food on improving or preventing MS.Some selected foods were tested by this model.Materials and Methods:Trial 1:Male Syrian Golden hamsters were treated a 22% high fat diet with high sucrose (S),high S and fructose (SF),S or SF + 10 mg/d STZ for 4 wks,S or SF + STZ (10 mg/d for 2 wks,then 10 mg/2d for 2 wks) respectively to induce MS.Blood samples were obtained from ocular fossa every week.
