The indole and thiophene structure is probably the heterocyclic nucleus that concentrates the most interest because of its presence in a plethora of natural products and molecules with biological activity.1 Although nowadays there are a large number of methodologies for the synthesis and structural modification of the indole scaffold,2 the development of alternative approaches that may allow for the straightforward preparation of structurally diverse indoles and thiophene is a field of constant interest.
