The paraventricular nucleus of the midline thalamus (PVT) innervates areas of the extended amygdala known to play a key role in the expression of emotional behaviors. In this talk, a description of the anatomical connections of the PVT and the distribution of orexins fibres in this brain area will be given to show how this thalamic region is well positioned to influence emotional behavior via orexin receptors.
