Prefrontal cortex, including the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC),has been documented to play key roles in learning, memory and persistent pain. The FMR1 gene knock out mouse,an animal model of fragile X syndrome, shows impaired attention demanding trace fear memory which requires the function the of the ACC and hippocampus. The long-term potentiation (LTP) is considered one of the cellular mechanisms for learning and memory.Dopamine has been shown to facilitate the LTP in the prefrontal cortex. However, little is known about the cellular mechanisms of dopaminergic modulation for the synaptic wansmission, and dopaminergic modulation of synaptic potentiation in the animal model of Fragile X syndrome.
