It is of important theoretical significance to reveal the molecular mechanisms for tolerance of plants to selenium. To examine this, wild-type and 2,121 mutant lines of Arabidopsis were treated with different concentrations of sodium selenite (Na2SeO3) to screen for selenium-resistant mutants by root growth analysis. There were 29 mutant lines as candidates and eventually two stable mutant lines vse1 and vse2 were obtained. The phenotype and biochemical identification showed that vse1 and vse2 were selenium-resistant.The study provides a basis for cloning and functional analysis of selenium-resistant genes.
