The main aim of this research was to look at the policies that have been put into place to address women’s access to education.The study looked at how the gender policy has been effective in addressing issues that affect women’s access in education.The study investigated the problems that are being faced by women in accessing tertiary education in relation to the gender laid out policies.The concept of gender formed the basis of theoretical framework.Qualitative research methodology was used to investigate the effectiveness of gender policies in addressing problems faced by women in accessing tertiary education.Primary data was obtained from focus group discussions with women enrolled at the University of Zimbabwe.To ascertain the effectiveness of government policies in addressing gender parity problems the study also made use of key informant interviews with lecturers who had spent more than10 years at the university.The findings indicated that poverty and cultural beliefs are some of the factors that affects women’s access to education.
