读斯塔夫里阿诺斯的《全球通史》不经发现这样一个现象:一种新的艺术表现形式往往产生于社会的动荡时期,伴随着社会的稳定,走向兴盛同时也趋于媚俗。自然的必然规律:兴盛后必然走向衰落,社会如此、文明如此、艺术亦如此。社会走过了繁荣就会转向衰落,这种衰落影响着生活在其中的大众,意识形态的改变促使艺术表现形式的改变,从而兴盛后的艺术形式逐渐的走向衰落,表现新文化思想的艺术形式就会悄悄的出现。周而复始,无论是什么样的艺术形式都脱离不开这种现象。但凡事必有例外,宗教艺术在某个时期或者是某个阶段会出现短暂的兴盛时期,这是由宗教艺术的性质决定的。但总的趋势还是遵循上面所述的,新的艺术表现形式伴随着社会的动荡而产生,繁荣而兴盛,又随着衰落而退出主流。艺术与社会意识形态不同的是:新的艺术形式形成后,不会随着社会意识形态的消亡而消失,或是被一小部分艺术家所坚持,亦或是转化成另一种形式。
