韩国儒学的现有研究成果虽然很多,但从思想史的层面对各种论辩之间的有机联系进行整理和补充依然很有必要。朝鲜前期的四端七情论争非常缜密地考察了在理气论基础上的人的道德心性问题,而朝鲜后期的湖洛论辩在对前期性理学进行再讨论的过程中,从逻辑上对此进行了新的探索。栗谷提出理通气局说的意图在于实现本体和现象的一致化,为了理的实现而提高了气的影响力,试图把握住来往于本体和现象界的理。但他这种综合性的思维因观点的不同会产生理通和气局的分离。巍岩注重纯粹的本心的层面,将重点置于其与本性的一致。而南塘却认为因气质的个体的特殊性不能普遍化。他们各自将栗谷的学说实现了分化和统合,从而突出了人的高贵性和尊严性。
