Conrad brought Russia not only traumatic memories, more temptations of snooping. Its “under the eyes of the West” has multiple images: it is a ghost that needs to be dispersed intruding into the “center,” but is also represented as a nation capable of “partial humiliation” of self-esteem An independent world that is resistant to Western desires. Different values and modes of civilization fiercely collided in the space crushed by the autocratic regime and eventually provided a perfect model for Conrad to show “irreconcilable” Sino-Sudanese human life; and for Russia’s writing, In turn, to promote the writer to find some more hidden self-awareness.
