[Objective] To analyze the relationship between BMI indicators and physical fitness. [Methods] Adults from Yantai City, Shandong Province were selected from 2004 to 2005/4. A total of 997 randomly selected subjects were used to collect their height, weight, and other body function and physical fitness data using a physical fitness test system. Each group’s BMI index was calculated. The law of quality changes. [Results] 1) The average male BMI index in Yantai was 23.7 kg/m2, and the average female was 21.8 kg/m2. There was a significant difference between the two. Compared with males and females of all ages, except for 50-54 years old, there was no significant difference between the males and females in all age groups. However, after the 35-year-old age, the gap was significantly reduced. 2) The proportion of low-weight and normal-type people in all age groups is gradually decreasing with the increase of age group, while the proportion of overweight and obese people in all age groups basically follows age. The increase in segments showed a gradual upward trend. 3) The proportion of women with low body weight and normal body weight is much higher than that of men, while the proportion of overweight and obesity is significantly lower than that of men, especially the proportion of women with obesity is 19.4 percentage points lower than that of men. 4) Among all the indices with significant correlation, there is a large positive correlation between blood pressure and BMI index, suggesting that being overweight or obese will increase the risk of hypertension and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. [Conclusion] The BMI index had significant correlation with physical function and physical fitness index; overweight had a certain negative impact on certain related physical constitutions, so it is necessary to take corresponding measures to prevent excessive growth of body weight in order to improve its own health status.
