中国式英语的形成与中西文化差异有着极为密切的联系。其在语义、语法、语用等方面呈现出的特征均有文化学上的原因。不同民族不同的文化审美观、不同的文化认知取向对其语义平面有明显影响;而中国式英语的形态和语序在很大程度上反映出文化心态的巨大作用;中国封建社会长幼尊卑的等级制度和长期以来形成的等级文化传统让中国文化成为一种“情境中心”文化,个人的情绪、愿望、目的和隐私等必须让位于群体的考虑,这反映在中国式英语的语用层面上,便是谦逊原则的普遍存在——既存在于口语中,也存在于书面语中。
