The changes of cytotoxicity factor (MCCF), tumor necrosis factor (TNF) activity, and lymphocyte transformation (lipid transfer) function were examined in 47 elderly patients with gastric ulcer and ulcerated gastric cancer. Results The peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) produced by these patients showed decreased levels of MCCF activity and lymphocytosis. The changes in patients with gastric cancer were even more pronounced. It suggests that the body’s anti-tumor immune activity is low, which may be one of the causes of stomach cancer or malignant transformation of gastric ulcer in the elderly. The activity of serum TNF in patients with metastatic gastric cancer was lower than those without metastasis. Dynamic observation of TNF activity was associated with postoperative recurrence and poor prognosis. Detection of serum TNF activity can be used as an indicator to observe the efficacy of gastric cancer and determine its prognosis.
