Literature seems to have never had any “intercourse” with theology in its “traditional knowledge” of literature. However, there is no doubt that in the history of human literature and the present literary life, people often maintain a kind of religious psychological reverence and theological worship to literature. It is in this sacred awe and worship of “preconditions” that we have today’s literary life. In view of the “theological phenomenon” of this kind of “pre-literary” which is always existed in literature, this article first makes a study of genesis and history for it. The author thinks: Although literature is only a secular phenomenon, human beings have always maintained theological feelings about them. This kind of theological instinct of mankind has not only directly led to the occurrence of literary sacred theory, but has in fact become the basic cultural motive force for the development of literature. In this paper, for the first time, the author makes a critical analysis of the theory of holiness of literature and its two main points of view, and puts forward the corresponding concept of theoretical category.
