2015年“南海Ⅰ号”宋朝沉船发掘露出船体外板,发现船壳建有3层外板,这是中国古代造船技术的最新重大考古发现。中国古代文献未见宋船船壳3层外板建造技术的相关记载,但在《马可·波罗游记》中却有详细记述。这次“南海Ⅰ号”宋朝沉船考古新发现同马可·波罗的记载互为印证,表明宋朝船壳3层外板建造技术是继减摇龙骨、平衡舵等之后,又一项中国古代造船技术新发明。虽然宋朝船壳3层外板建造技术已经失传,但“南海Ⅰ号”宋朝沉船船体却基本保存下来,对其展开研究,有着重要的科学价值。
