Based on the SWECCL and LOCNESS corpora, this study explored the use preference of Chinese English majors in the three usages of negative be noting and the differences in the usage of spoken Taiwanese and the comparison with the usage of native speakers. The results show that Chinese EFL learners prefer to use the complete form that be not separate. Compared with the written language, the “be not” form is more commonly used in spoken English, and the “be not formal” is more used than native speakers. This phenomenon may be related to the formality of the corpus, the topic of discussion and the traditional culture of each country.
