Swedish researchers have announced a plan to make quantum dots capable of emitting linearly polarized light. Anders Lundskog of Linköping University and colleagues controlled the light emitted by the indium gallium nitride quantum dots by “implanting” the quantum dots at the top of the elongated hexagonal gallium nitride pyramid at the base. They found that the direction of polarization of the emitted light is consistent with the extension of the base.
