Michelle: What happened? You sounded so sad on the phone. Are you OK?
Adele: Something terrible has happened.
Michelle: What? What are you talking about? Tell me everything.
Adele: It’s Flynn.
Michelle: Oh no! What happened? Is he alright?
Adele: Yes, he is fine.
Michelle: Did you guys break up?
Adele: No, quite the opposite, actually.
Michelle: What? What do you mean?
Adele: He asked me to marry him!
Michelle: He proposed?! Oh congratulations! That’s great news! I’m so happy for you guys. I don’t understand…Why does that make you upset?
Adele: ①Are you kidding me? ②I’m not the marrying kind. I can barely take care of myself, ③how am I supposed to make decisions for two people?
Michelle: Wait. Slow down. How did this happen?
Adele: He took me out for dinner and had booked the whole restaurant. Then before I knew it,④he popped the question. It all happened so fast.
Michelle: Oh that’s so romantic. I’m so jealous of you. So did you give him an answer?
Adele: I told him I need to think about it.
Michelle: Are you crazy?! ⑤Flynn is a great catch! What’s there to think about?
Adele: Well, there is his family. His parents are unbearable. His mother does nothing but criticize me and ⑥his father cannot put two words together.
Michelle: Yes, but you are marrying Flynn, not his parents. You will hardly ever see them.
Adele: I guess you’re right, but what about my job? I just got the promotion. I can’t afford to take time off to plan a wedding.
Michelle: There is no rush. You don’t have to get married straight away. Your friends and family will be there to help you. Besides, millions of people get married while they have a job. You won’t be the first to do it.
Adele: You are right. I’m not sure what I am afraid of. It just seems like such a big step.
Michelle: ⑦It sounds like you are just getting cold feet because you are afraid of serious commitment. You couldn’t even join the gym because you were afraid of being locked into something for more than six months.
Adele: Ha! That’s true. I guess I need to face my fear and realize my love for Flynn is the most important thing in my life.
Michelle: Yeah, you should be grateful for finding true love, so many people search all their life for what you have, and never find it.
Adele: Oh, I’m such a fool! I love Flynn. I should have said “yes”!
Michelle: Yes!
Adele: YES, YES, YES!
