The rapid development of space technology will make the illusion of long-term human life in space a reality. From 1 to 3 November 1982, two Soviet astronauts had come out several times from the Salute -7 space station and succeeded in retrofitting the spacecraft power supply system. The two astronauts lived in space for a total of five months. The Soviet Union is stepping up its study on how people can act and adapt to the space environment under chronic conditions of weightlessness. The United States in this area is not far behind. The ultimate goal of all these studies is to establish humankind’s first “space city” in the near future, when large numbers of inhabitants of Earth will be moved to space.
