360Buy, the largest self-operated B2C website in China was under heavy scrutiny recently because one of its senior executives was reported to do business that eats away 360Buy’s profits.
The said senior executive is Wu Sheng, vice president of 360Buy. He just took a holiday before the scandal was revealed. It is said that he had close relationships with some other companies, where he had stakes or worked as consultant. He directly and indirectly moved some business of 360Buy to these companies that damaged his employer’s profits.
This case was revealed because Wu Sheng’s ex-wife sent the media a mysterious gift containing a lot of private information. According to these information, the actual winner of the “price war” between B2C websites on August 15 was a microblog-based marketing institution called NTA. This organization was established by Shen Yin, former executive editor of Entrepreneur Magazine. Its major profit pattern is to charge the marketingoriented microblogs they write or update for their clients. 360Buy was one of its major clients. Wu Sheng is one of the core members of NTA. He is the shareholder of Independent Media, a Shen Yinfounded company under NTA.
The media found after investigation that Wu Sheng’s business chain is far extended outside 360Buy. NTA is not the only unit. More names were revealed and some of them are known to people. If everything they were told or found was true, Wu Sheng’s business chain includes PR company, consultancy company and even 360Buy’s rival. That could definitely bring Wu Sheng to his ruin.
